Rasa Vineyards Presents the 2007 Principia Reserve Syrah

Celebrate Excellence

Rasa Vineyards is proud to introduce our first reserve wine – the 2007 Principia Reserve Syrah.

Sir Isaac Newton’s Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Mathematica (known as Principia) is a seminal work that changed the way we view the natural world. His laws of motion form the basis of classical mechanics – the study of bodies in motion.

He showed how gravity moves everything in the universe. It is in the Principia where he first introduces us to the law of universal gravitation.

In order to prove his theories in the Principia, he developed Calculus.

The Principia stands as testament to the genius of Newton. It also stands as inspiration to mankind that with our minds we can achieve unbelievable things.

We named our first reserve wine Principia as a celebration of excellence.

Here is our Winemaker’s notes:

The 2007 Principia exhibits incredible aromatic and palate complexity combined with great structure and a long silky finish. The bouquet offers meaty wild game notes with blackberry, truffle, and white pepper. The palate’s extraordinary silky texture envelops flavors of grilled meats, blackberry, kirsch, cola, spice, minerals, and earth. The resonant, silky finish lingers for approximately 2 minutes. The wine is a testament to the unique terroirs of Walla Walla and Washington. The composition is 100% Syrah sourced from the following vineyards: Les Collines Vineyard, Seven Hills Vineyard, Lewis Vineyard, Double River Ranch, and Portteus Vineyard.

The wine had a pre-fermentation maceration of 96 hours and a post-fermentation maceration of 115 hours. The wine was punched down by hand 3 times each day during macerations and fermentation. All individual wine components, including free run and press fractions, were kept separate until final blending. The oak profile is 30% new French oak (predominantly from Troncais and Alliers) and 70% 3-year neutral French oak. The wine achieved its sparkly brilliance from 5 judicious rackings, no fining agents were employed. The wine was very lightly filtered to capture any remaining lees. The alcohol is 14.9%, pH is 3.81, and the titratable acidity is 5.74 g/L.
